Agility Robotics Goes Public: Humanoid Robots Worth $2.5B

Agility Robotics just announced a deal to go public through a SPAC merger, valuing the company at $2.5 billion. The move will raise about $620 million in fresh cash. For context, a SPAC is basically a blank-check company created specifically to merge with a startup and take it public faster—less red tape, more speed, fewer boring SEC meetings.

The company was spun out of Oregon State University in 2015 and has quietly built credibility in the humanoid robotics space. Their main robot, Digit, isn't some lab experiment—it's designed to do actual work: warehouse jobs, logistics, all the stuff humans would rather not do. It's the robot nobody asked for until suddenly it became useful and, more importantly, profitable.

What's wild is the timing. While the AI and generative model hype is starting to cool down after years of irrational exuberance, physical robotics is attracting investors like it's the new crypto. The takeaway is obvious—making computers talk is cool, but making them move and work in the real world? That's where the real money is. A robot that walks and carries stuff apparently deserves a $2.5B valuation.

The $620 million Agility will raise will likely go toward ramping up production and pushing R&D forward. The humanoid robotics space is crowded now—Tesla, Boston Dynamics (owned by Google), Figure AI, and a dozen other startups are racing to own this market. Whoever gets to scale first with something that actually works and costs don't bankrupt small businesses wins big.
