Anthropic Mythos: US Blocks Powerful AI Access for Foreigners

Basically, the United States is playing "exclusive club" with its most advanced artificial intelligence. The Trump administration continued to restrict access to Anthropic PBC's Mythos 5 to a limited number of US organizations, even after dropping export controls on the company’s latest artificial intelligence models. Quite the paradox, wouldn't you say?

It feels like a "we'll help you, but not too much" kind of move. While greater openness was expected, the Mythos 5 model remains locked down. This means that despite the hype and promises of a more open future for AI, the cream of the technology remains an almost exclusively American affair.

Foreign governments, companies, and financial institutions are left in limbo, unable to get their hands on Mythos 5. Imagine being at a party where the DJ plays the best music, but only a select few are allowed to dance. That's pretty much the situation for non-Americans hoping to use this AI.

This policy aims to give US companies a competitive edge, or so it's hoped. Keeping others out means innovations based on Mythos 5 will, at least initially, be star-spangled. But how long can such a restrictive strategy last in a fast-moving world?
