ChatGPT Computer History: now it watches you work

It's a new feature in the ChatGPT desktop app for macOS that basically tracks everything you do. It records your clicks, keystrokes, and actions on your computer. The goal is to build a detailed timeline of your digital activities.

This "memory" helps ChatGPT and Codex, another OpenAI model, better understand how you work. They can then use this info to respond to your requests more accurately. Think of it as an assistant taking notes on your every move.

The Computer History feature launched in ChatGPT's macOS desktop app. It turns your daily actions into training data. This way, the model learns your habits, suggests automations, and can even pick up tasks you left half-done.

It wants to make your life easier, on paper at least. Imagine needing to upload a file, and ChatGPT already suggests the path because it "knows" where you usually save those kinds of documents. Handy, right? But there's a flip side.

Of course, a system recording every click raises an eyebrow or two. While it promises much more personalized AI assistance, it also brings up privacy concerns. All the data collected, from your keystrokes to visited websites, becomes part of ChatGPT's "brain."

OpenAI states users control what data is recorded and can delete their history. Still, the thought of an AI knowing your every digital step is a bit unnerving. Are we willing to trade a bit of privacy for a bit more convenience?
