AI Scammers Are Creating Fake Black People to Flog Shein Garbage

Here's the playbook, and it's as bleak as it sounds. There are TikTok creators generating faces of Black people using AI image tools—Midjourney, DALL-E, whatever—and these faces are completely synthetic. Not exaggerated, not "inspired by." Entirely fake.

Once they've got their fictional face, they put it to work selling stuff. Mostly dropshipped junk from Shein, AliExpress, and the usual suspects—the kind of items that arrive in cardboard and fall apart by Thursday.

The criminal genius here? They're trading on authenticity. A fake face reads as "real creator." They post tearjerker videos like "I'm a Black woman and nobody supports my business," slip in an affiliate link, and watch people click through to buy polyester whatever. The audience has no idea they're funding a bot farm. The scammer pockets the commission.

Here's what really stings: while these fraud factories are printing money with generated personas, actual creators—real people trying to earn honestly—are getting buried. A creator mentioned in coverage (Aliyah) is out here selling handmade accessories, barely scraping by. Meanwhile, AI-Persona-47 is moving Chinese plastic at scale and pulling decent cash on affiliate commissions. The asymmetry is maddening.

TikTok Shop made this stupidly easy. Post a video, drop an affiliate link, pocket a cut. Add a face that AI generated in 30 seconds, no legal liability ("I didn't make the face, an algorithm did!"), and you've basically built a fraud printer.

The race angle isn't a side note here—it's the whole point. Using synthetic Black faces to sell cheap garbage is blackface with a tech veneer. It exploits stereotypes (the "authentic" struggle narrative), monetizes Black bodies, and pays exactly zero actual Black people for the work.

Right now? There's no real solution. TikTok bans accounts, but launching a new one takes minutes. Platforms don't actually verify whether faces are real or generated. Algorithms can't tell a genuine creator from an AI factory. The system is wide open.
