The Code Works. And Now? The "It's Fine" Trap

The modern paradox is unsettling: a chatbot can generate code that works, passes obvious tests, doesn't crash when you run it. Looks perfect. Then you discover it's inefficient, riddled with security holes, completely unreadable, and scalability? Forget about it. But most developers never notice because the code runs.

The real danger is that AI confidence creates a false sense of security. You're not actually reviewing the code, the model doesn't truly understand it (it's just predicting the next token), and your project becomes a ticking time bomb. It's like building a house and only checking that it doesn't collapse on day one—nice, but you have no idea if the walls will disintegrate in three years.

This doesn't mean AI isn't useful—it's incredibly useful. But using it as a complete autopilot is dangerous. You need a serious mindset: generate code with AI, sure, but then review it like it was written by an intern on mental vacation. Ask yourself: is it readable? Is it secure? Does it scale? Does it make sense? If you answer "dunno" to any of these, it's not ready.

Medicine has protocols and checks because removing oversight causes real damage. Code is similar: if you don't know what it does, you can't guarantee it does the right things. And in software, the right things include speed, security, and maintainability—not just "doesn't crash."

So here's the real lesson: code that works is the bare minimum. If you think that's enough, you're on track to maintain a legacy application no one wants to touch in five years. And at that point, even AI won't save you.
