Is AI Stealing Your Job? Now There's a Dashboard That Shows You in Real Time

Enter the Canaries Dashboard, a joint effort from ADP and Stanford Digital Economy Lab. The name sounds mysterious—like you're monitoring canaries in a coal mine—but the idea is straightforward and honestly pretty clever: use real labor market data to track in real time which professions are about to be completely transformed by AI, which are expanding, and which are simply vanishing.

Until recently, whenever someone said "AI will change work," we could just shrug and hope it wasn't our job. Now, thanks to this tool, we can't hide behind uncertainty anymore. The data is public, accessible, and updated in real time. Whether you're an accountant, developer, designer, or nurse, you can look at the dashboard and literally see what's happening in your job category.

Richardson made a crucial point during her appearance on Bloomberg Tech (where she sat down with Caroline Hyde and Ed Ludlow): AI itself isn't the problem. The problem is the choice companies make with AI. You can use it to cut heads and reduce costs (quick, but convenient in the short term), or you can use it to give your employees new superpowers and do things that were previously impossible. These are two completely different roads, leading to radically opposite work universes.

What makes the Canaries Dashboard interesting is that it's neither apocalyptic fearmongering nor tech-fair cheerleading. It's just a mirror. It shows you the facts, no filter. If your job category is accelerating, you see it. If it's contracting, you see it. If it's mutating (meaning the number of people stays the same but the actual work changes dramatically), you see that too.

Obviously, there's a big "but": data isn't a crystal ball. It shows the present and immediate trends, not the future. AI evolves incredibly fast, and today's trend could reverse tomorrow (or, conversely, accelerate unexpectedly). Still, it's the best shot we've had so far at an honest answer to the question: "What's actually happening to the job market?"
