Meta's AI cloud: Zuckerberg rents out his computing power

Meta, the giant behind Facebook, poured billions into artificial intelligence. Now, instead of keeping all that computing power to itself, it decided to rent it out. The goal is to create a new cloud business, making its infrastructure and AI models available to others.

Imagine owning a garage full of Ferraris and deciding to rent them. That's pretty much what Meta will do. The idea, reported by Bloomberg's Ed Ludlow on July 1, 2026, is to monetize the huge investments made to develop its models and computing capacity.

This project puts Meta in direct competition with cloud giants like Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud. Until now, these companies dominated the market for renting AI "muscles." Zuckerberg wants a slice of that pie. Isn't it a bit late, maybe?

The real winner could be anyone who needs AI power without wanting to build everything from scratch. Startups, small and medium businesses, or even large companies looking for alternatives. They will have more choice and, hopefully, more competitive prices.

Until yesterday, options were limited. Now, with Meta entering the game, the market becomes livelier. It's a bit like a new supermarket opening after years of monopoly. More supply almost always means an advantage for consumers.

And that's not the only news on the AI front. The Trump administration, for example, just removed restrictions on foreign access to Anthropic's Fable 5 AI model. This means even more companies and developers can use it freely. The landscape is definitely expanding.
