Patch Tuesday: Microsoft uses AI, more updates coming

Microsoft has decided to give its monthly "Patch Tuesday" - the one that makes us wait while the PC updates - a little boost. The idea is simple: use artificial intelligence to sniff out security holes in Windows 11 before the bad guys do. Think of it like hiring a super-fast digital detective.

Microsoft stated in a blog post on Thursday that it's now using AI to "identify potential issues earlier." This should, in theory, make the system safer by anticipating the moves of cybercriminals who, wouldn't you know it, are also arming themselves with AI for their attacks. What a race to the last patch!

The direct consequence of this AI "help" is that every second Tuesday of the month, we'll see more security updates arrive. If you were already complaining about the time lost installing patches, get ready for longer evenings staring at an "Updating..." screen. The company predicts that "customers will see a higher volume of security updates" in each monthly release.

Sure, more updates also mean a system that's, on paper at least, better protected. But it also means more interruptions, more forced restarts, and let's be honest, more opportunities for an update to go wrong. So, an early Christmas present, but with some extra assembly required. That's the price of modern security, right?
