Siri with Claude: Anthropic's AI lands (experimental) on macOS

Someone decided Siri wasn't smart enough and took matters into their own hands. Developer mpociot launched an experimental GitHub project enabling macOS Siri to use Claude AI. Essentially, it's an attempt to give Apple's voice assistant a brand new brain.

This isn't an official update, let's be clear. It's a "do-it-yourself" effort showcasing what's possible. Imagine asking Siri something complex and getting a proper answer, not just "I didn't understand" or "I can search the web." That would be almost miraculous, wouldn't it?

The trick lies in a piece of code called an "App Intents model delegation provider." Sounds complicated, but think of it this way: when you ask Siri something, it usually goes to an Apple server. This project intercepts that request and sends it to Claude instead. This system utilizes macOS "App Intents," allowing apps to delegate tasks to other services, rerouting Siri's requests to Claude.

It's a bit like Siri having a secret interpreter who translates your questions for Claude, then brings you back the answer. Anthropic's AI is known for its conversational abilities, often superior to many other assistants. So, potential conversations would be much smoother and more intelligent.

If this experiment takes off, or if Apple decides to do something similar, your interaction with your Mac would change significantly.
