Suno Fights AI Music Spam: Watermarks Are Coming

It seems even AI creators are fed up with the chaos their own technology generates. Suno announced plans to implement new watermarking technology and a stricter download policy. This move comes after CEO Mikey Shulman outlined the company's principles in a lengthy blog post, attempting to bring some semblance of seriousness to the AI music world.

The idea is simple: make it harder for anyone to flood the internet with randomly generated, often low-quality AI tracks. Shulman, Suno's co-founder, stressed the importance of distinguishing "noise" from true creative potential. Basically, it's an effort to save face and the good name of AI music, which so far has produced more memes than masterpieces.

The digital watermark will act like an invisible "stamp," embedded directly into audio tracks generated by Suno. This will make it easy to identify if a song was created with their AI, even after it's been downloaded or converted. Think of it as an "AI-made" label you can't peel off.

Beyond the watermark, Suno is revising its download policy. This means mass downloading AI tracks, perhaps to fill endless background music playlists, will become less automated. The company aims to discourage the indiscriminate, high-volume use of its platform, pushing for better quality-or at least less digital junk.
